Desert Blossom

She planted her heart, and tended it carefully. She wished for a sunflower, but up grew a cactus.

Sharp spines declared, “Stay away!” but a tiny star-shaped flower bloomed where no one could see. She broke inside and found a pool of dreams with the sugary, plastic taste of strawberry Kool-aid.
