The Last Cruise

Driving his BMW-327 down the German road that cloudy day, he eased off the accelerator as he began to hear a loud rumble. It wasn’t from the engine, but from the skies, miles away. It intensified even more. He knew it wasn’t the Luftwaffe. No, these birds were much larger, and in greater numbers.

Nice caputer of a moment in the life of a civilian of world war two.  I like how the unknown rumble is compared to known planes, and the unknown is far larger, therefore a turning point in the war.
